Forage Sources

Featured Replies

Over the past several weeks I have frequented a series of watershed lakes and have caught numerous bass. Most of them are decent size of about 2 lbs. with a few going near 4 lbs. They are all healthy and in good condition, chunky and active. What I can't understand is what is available to them as forage sources. I see no small fish in the shallows, no minnows or tadpoles. We have caught no other species in the ponds except bass. What do you suppose they are eating to keep them in such good condition? :-? :-?

Food source for bas in a bass only lake ---> baby bass.

Whatever falls, crawls or lives in the water they can eat; bream, crawdads, salamanders, dragon fly nymphs and adults, frogs, snakes, worms, small birds. There are a lot of creatures that make up a basses diet, plus they will eat smaller bass.

i agree with both previous responses......

anything that hits the water is fair game for a bass, if they can fit it in their mouth.....they will eat it!!! (and ive seen pics of them getting more than greedy as well).....

also, as stated in a previous response......bass will most definetly thrive on small and weaker bass!!
