Spawning Carp

Recommended Posts

At my usual fishing whole it appears that the carp are spawning in a shallow cove, and I have been catching pretty large numbers of bass around this area. Could this be an indication that bass will spawn/are spawning in that area?

Carp spawn in water between 68 to 75 degrees, after the bass have spawned. The carp are egg eaters and more than likely raiding bluegill beds or late spawning bass beds in the area and spawning.

You can usually tell when carp are spawning. They aren't too subtle. Splashing and stirring things up. However, bass seem to notice this and clean up whatever the carp stir up. Don'T be afraid to fish an area where you see carp thrashing about. There will most likely be some bass in the area.

When the carp are spawning in my canal, the bass fishing is FANTASTIC.

Interesting, I have had a lot of success in a different area of a lake I fish.  There were allot of carp thrashing around.

Sure have to agree with the three posters above me, when the carp are spawning the bass are right there. In one of the rivers I fish the smallies are right in the middle of the carp spawn cleaning up anything they stir up.
