Bite seems to have slowed this week

Featured Replies

Has anyone else notice a decrease in the amount of fish caught in the past week? Ive only caught 3 good bass (15" or longer) in the past 6 days and I fish everyday. I know my water really well (at least I thought I did) but the fish dont seem to be very plentyful there now. Even the shallow grassy areas are not very active. Back 3-4 weeks ago when the temps were over 100 here in TX I was catching lots of fish and even when the temps dropped 2 weeks ago I was still catching lots of fish but the past week has produced several skunks!  Caught a 3#'der on spinner this morning but it was the only bite in 2 hours.

Ive tried plastics/spinners/topwater/cranks, all of which are usually productive.

Which lake?

Grapevine

Lavon

Lewisville

Ray Hubbard

Or smaller

as the water warms, the fish will go deeper.  I'm sure in texas where it gets crazy hot, the fish will not be in the shallows or along the shore so much.

Im fishing a lot of smaller private local lakes/ponds in the Frisco,TX area cause I havent bought the boat yet, trying to put off the boat till my son get done with school in 3 more years.

Some of the water is 15-20 feet deep so I guess Ill concentrate more on the deep spots. Seems like the fish would still come to the shallow (1-2 feet) early in the morning pre-dawn and after dark.  they were there when it was 110 degrees 3 weeks ago!

well my area is way different than yours temp wise, the hottest it's been in the past few months in my town is high 70's, with most days still being in the 60's. (I live on top of a mountain) We can still catch plenty of fish in the shallows, but they are typically much smaller. I have pulled almost all of my bigger fish this year out of the middle of the lake, where other fisherman almost never go. The shores get pounded, but you rarely see someone out in the middle.

I try to fish a variety of areas, baits and techniques just to keep from getting stale. My honey spot is a waterfall, caught 3#'der there this morning by throwing a spinner directly into the downpouring water (it lands behind the falling water and I pull it through) but even the waterfall catches have fallen off by 75% in the past week.

Go invited by my neighbor to go to a big lake next weekend on his boat, hope we have better luck!
