Whats Your Favorite Water Level?

Featured Replies

    So what is it?

For me it has got to be slightly above full pool.

As long as it has grass/reeds and some dead trees in it then its the correct level.

10 feet above the multi-purpose flood line when it jumps way up during spawn

my favorite thing ever!!!  everyone hits the shallows and lets you hit the nests all day long bc they think you're too deep :P

About 40' higher than where it is now!

My usual lake in the last month has dropped so low that an island I never knew was there has sprung up in the middle of the lake. Since the coves are now dried up, there's very little room to escape the water skiers. Boats are tying together in the main channel to drop swimmers and lounge rafts and have their social gatherings.

I may have to call it quits until after Labor Day when water skiers are kicked off the lake until Memorial Day.

I guess the answer to your question is anything higher than 15' below pool.

I like to be able to wade. So, just a few feet, where the deepest that you walk in might come up to your chest, but you are able to find and cast into some deeper water. Love it.

2' into the bushes in may with overcast skies and a slight drizzle on Buggs Island.  ;D

that depends upon the lake.    I've seen lakes up above pool and had great days, and found lakes above pool, I couldn't get to where the fish was by boat.

I like a lakes level to be safe for navigating.    When lakes hit all time lows, or lower than normal, it brings  nasty objects into play.

That has a tendacy to give me the "pucker factor"!!!!

I guess your right about the safe navigation.

I was at my home lake over the weekend which is down about 5' and we were going into a cove about 30 MPH and we hit a tree.

My favorite water level for the lake I fish the most would be 10 ft above how it is now, deep enough for launching the boat and not to worry about that ewey mix of rocks and silt on the bottom but low enough to have all the submerged tress showing up above water level, that deters pleasure boaters, water skiers and jet skiers from running up and down the lake at warp speed.

I have to say full pond as well. Last year SML dropped quite a bit and it was very difficult to launch. Some ramps were closed all together. I was concerned about tearing something up. Once you got in it was great for finding cover.

Only fished Buggs Island once when it was up in the bush's (01 or 02 I believe) Incredible fishing!

Not on my lake it doesn't.
