I really need some help

Featured Replies

I live near Baltimore MD and I fish in a reservoir (Loch Raven).  All spring and early summer long, catching 2-5 fish a day was normal.  I fished almost only senkos.  Now, the lake is FILLED with weeds; very very thick, and I'm stuck on shore.  I throw out my worm, and it does'nt get through it.  I'm not a fishing pro, so I don't know what to do?  I throw a jig out, and I'm not sure that even get's through...certainly get's plenty of weeds though.

Any thoughts or help would be amazing...I'm about to get some night crawlers and just fish for bluegills.

depending on how high the weeds are, what about swimming something over the tops?  A senko rigged weedless will swim very eratically when jerked, and with practice you can keep it towards the top of the weedline if it's too thick otherwise.  or even a spinnerbait kept to the top of the surface.

I'm sure you will get alot of great responses from the very knowledgeable people here at BR.

My two cents, go to any place that carries some fishing tackle and look for Bullet weights (They look like bullets and scale the size due to thickness of the weeds ).  Rig the bullet weight above your senko threading the closed end first and give it a try. This way you will be 'punching' through the mats.

Best of luck

A modified carolina rig will work wonders with your Senkos. Use a 1/2 - 3/4 oz. bullet sinker. Tie on a quality crane swivel (i.e.: Spro PowerSwivel). Add a 1 1/2' length of 17# test flurocarbon leader. Tie on a 5/0 heavy, off-set worm hook. Thread on a 7" Senko. And....hang on!

This will punch thru the mat easily and yet still present your Senko naturally. No bass can resist a big, easy meal like this!  ;)

there are places on the loch where the grass isn't so thick or not there at all because of the different bottoms on the lake.  fish top water early in the morning and then when the sun gets high in the sky start walkin the shoreline looking for other places and casting out as you walk.  In time you will find breaks in the grass or maybe gravel or rocky bottom. thats what I did years ago when the water was low so it was easier to get around.   good luck

Work a weedless frog (Spro, Scumfrog, Snagpruf, etc.) through that mess. When they bust through and take it, WAIT a couple of seconds until you feel the weight of the fish, then set your hook.

I agree, but if they crash through and don't hit it, get a soft plastic into that newly created hole ASAP.
