Dock's n Swimmin Jigs

Featured Replies

Wondering if any of you guys like pitching/skipping jigs underdocks and pontoons. If so what colors you like. I've been having a lot of luck skipping jigs with my pitchin rod under and around pontoons lately. I go for a fish imitation more so than a craw. Bluegill colors are my favorite for this but you still cant beat a black and blue.    8-)

oh yeah i live in wisconsin by the twin cities sorta... just on the better side of the river  :)

Throwing anything under docks where there are fish will turn out to be productive.  I typically throw my jigs where there will be less of a chance of getting caught, especially when aiming for someones dock or boat where little kids or even adults will possibly be in the water.

Respect for property owners has never been a problem for me and who i fish with. I've never left anything behind on someone else's boat/dock or w/e for that matter. I know fishing docks can be a sensitive issue with people so i do it as respectfully as i can.  This is getting away from the topic of the thread though.   :-?

BTW. I've found swimming jigs in and around docks to be extremely effective if the fish are very shallow, as in 2 feet or less.

i wasn't saying you are being disrespectful, and i'm sorry if you took it that way.  Not what I was saying.  I was just telling you why I don't personally like to do it.  I don't have the desire or patience to go digging around under a dock for a jig.

I prefer Senkos and now Fat Ikas, thanks to RoadWarrior, over jigs around docks and pontoons, which line the shore of my home lake.

Skip 'em as far under as you can and set the hook hard and get 'em coming out toward you - fast. If you can shoot your lure under a Pontoon boat from the back side of it you will be fishing where no one else even tries to put a lure.

If your going for a faster presentation where you are hitting the edges then a jig is the way to go. If the fish are hanging out on the outside of the dock then figure out how high or low they are in the water column and the relateing structure and you're in for a great day.

I also agree with CWB and RW when it comes to fishing under docks. Swimming jigs aren't as effective to me personally. It may be my mind block but I feel that if the fish is under the dock then they are less aggressive and demand a lower spinning reel presentation...Plus spinning reels are extremely good at skipping  ;D
