Two hook rigging

Featured Replies

Recent discussions on drop shotting with 2 hooks have got me thinking.  2 hooks are legal in SD and IA where I fish so I have been coming up with all kinds of combinations of 2-bait rigs to try to increase my chances of a hookup on those days when I can't figure the fish out.  I am curious to hear what some favorite 2-bait rigs are out there.  Anyone have any favorites?

Double fluke ( or monkey ) rig.

Thanks for helping me think about this one.....

Maybe Saturday morning will find a pig-n-jig used instead of a sinker.

The problem with the jig as a drop shot weight has been discussed here before.  First, each bait requires a different hookset; how do you know which bait is getting bit?

Second, that palomar knot, if tied correctly, puts a kink in the tag end, additionally that tag end is run back through the hook eye in an effort to keep the hook perpendicular from the fluorocarbon line.  Using stiff fluoro leader material goes a long way here.

When there is pressure on that knot, the knot sometimes swings back through the hook eye.  What do you think will happen when its a bass pulling on the tag end of that knot?

I can't tell you how many drop shot fish I've caught, where the drop line has broke off or left in tatters behind a hard charging smallie.

Bottom line, if you want to fish a jig, tie on a jig.  If you want to drop shot, tie up a drop shot.  I am sure there will be others that have had success, and to be truthful, so have I.  But, I have had some failures as well, and couldn't continue to use or recommend this rig.
