Hi I'm new here btw!

From Maryland

I try to fish everyday after work. I stick to local ponds which produce decend fish (decent to me atleast.)

All this summer I've pulled out atleast 2 largemouths a day. Mostly range from 13-18 inches. Some days i'll get 3lb'ers all day...other days I'll just get 8 1 and 2lb'ers.

Heres my issue - Over the last week I have caught 2 fish total. 10" each...I think it was the same fish. I'm not sure whats happening, haha.

The air temp has dropped over the past week aswell.

I've tryed everything! I usually have the best luck with 4.5" tubes on the bottom. In the past week I have tried all types/colors tubes(added rattles), worms, and other rubbers on the bottom. On the top I've tried buzz, frogs, and other rubber crap. I haven't caught anything on the top since about July anyway. The ponds have heavy veg all around so crank baits and spinners are out.

Am I doing something wrong? I doubt it cause I have had so much success. Is it cause the water temp has dropped some? Or am I just having a string of bad luck?

Maybe it's time to find some new places to fish?

Any help or tips would be great! Thanks!!   :)

Where in Maryland are you? i am on the eastern shore near Ocean City. I have been having a lot of luck with spinners but with the veg. the way you say it is i think your doing what you can and its just slow right now. Maybe cause of the cool off but probably just a string of bad luck. keep at it. They will come around

In the fall when surface water cools it mixes or ''turns over" with the now warmer water below it.  When that happens fish can be more difficult to catch as they are more dispersed throughout the water column.

Another possible solution is the vegitation itsself.  When a small body of water is full of plant material as you described the fish are negatively impacted when that vegitation dies off.  Are you seeing a die off in vegitation?   When it dies and starts to decompose it uses up a lot of the oxygen in the water.  The lack of oxygen causes the fish to be lethargic and could even be fatal if it is sever.  Needless to say, if they are struggling to survive they aren't much in the mood to eat.

In either case, I would suggest fishing in the greenest weeds you can find as they will put off the most oxygen.  thats where the fish will be.

I agree, the only other thing I could add is did it rain recently? I know at this weed choked reservoir by me, the rain brings more food, and the fish gorge themselves late at night. so when I go the next day or two, they are not hungry so you get the one or two you can make hit out of anger.

Thanks for the replies!

the vegitation is very healty still. doesn't seem to be dying off. I will try fishing the greenest areas.

It has been raining quite often lately...maybe the fish are full!

SWH- I am located in the Annapolis area.

I guess I'll just keep casting away and see what happends. Thanks for the help!

strap on a scum frog, or an original, or a weed demon, orrrrrrrr.... a zz walker.

still not catching anything!!

I find myself getting frusterated and doing everything faster. When I notice I get back to normal speed for what i'm fishing.

As time consuming as it was I even threw some spinner baits with no luck.

Any other tips?

i just broke a long streak today using a rattle trap on a fairly steady-fast retrieve.
