Goin fishin...need advice!!

Featured Replies

Goin fishin this weekend and thought I'd see what yall recommend using...

I'll be fishin at a neighborhood lake, but it's really good sized and has a few coves in it that make for good fishin. I live in NC an the weather for the weekend here is supposed to be a high of 60, sunny, and 0% chance of rain. The water is pretty murky an it gets up to about 20 feet deep. I've got a 12' jon boat so I won't be limited just to the banks.

What approach would yall recommend? such as lure selection an what retrieve, where to fish, etc.

thanks for all the help,

any advice is welcome!

Always look at your weather for a 3-5 day period prior to your trip

Pfafftown, NC

November 24th - 27th

Winds: light & variable

Sky conditions: partly cloudy - overcast - light rain/fog/mist

Air temperatures: low 40s - upper 50s

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 51. West wind between 8 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 28. West wind between 5 and 7 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 58. West wind between 5 and 8 mph.

Primary & secondary points with lipless cranks & shallow cranks, jigs or slow rolled spinner baits in 8-12'

Good advice there, Catt. I've learned to look at the weather patterns as a bigger picture, and not just what you're looking at for that day. Helps a lot. Now, as for what I'd recommend for you? Probably start somewhat shallow, like shoreline out to 6 or 8' with a shallow crank or spinner to find 'em, then definitely work those depths that you got any hits on with a jig. Slow will most likely be the key, and absolutely look for them to be hanging on or in cover like wood.

Firetiger crankbait if water stained.

Chrome with blue back Rat-L-Trap type bait.

Good luck.  :)

Okay when you say shallow cranks, are you using lipless?  Also, do you go with Shad patterns this time of year?  Blue of Silver?  Thanks!

I would have focused on the wind-blown banks with spinnerbaits and lipless cranks as well. Given that it was a neighbor-hood pond and not too big I would not think that points would have mattered. I would have also thrown jigs at any shoreline cover. Despite the cold temps when the sun comes out those fish will get super shallow.

I hear ya. I caught 1 off a white spinner runnin it along the shore line, 1 off a booyah jig with a sweet beaver trailer, 2

off a senko, an one off a drop shot.

So ever all it was a good day, good times!
