Where on this lake would you start?

Featured Replies

Depth ranges from 3ft to 75/80ft. Main channel is about 35-45ft in different spots. Water temp right now I would say is above 60. Vegetaion is almost gone. Lots of stumps all over the entire lake except where the dam is. (Rock Dam)

What do you think? Water is clear/dingy

I would start with a good topo map to identify possible spots and try get as much local information as possible. Then I would spend some time looking at sonar to determine the depth fish were holding. If you can find structure at that depth, close to deep water you have a starting point. If you find bait fish in the neighborhood you're good to go.

That is what I would do. Some would start shallow at the backs of creek channels. I see the pros catching fish shallow in all seasons, but that is not my strength. Good luck.

Lake Barnett, A lake on a bayou in a canyon

Visible Cover: Abundant flooded timber, riprap along the dam, rock banks and ledges

Depth: Average depth 30 feet; maximum depth 90 feet (the lake is shallowest on the west end and continually deepens as one travels toward the dam)

Bottom Features: Creek channel, inundated ridges, rocky timber-covered bottom

I would start on the shallower western end targeting 10-18' with Carolina Rigs, Deep Cranks, & Jigs ;)

Absolutely beautiful lake!

Diddo!

Have you ever fished those two draws west of the dam down from that feeder creek? Thought it looked interesting. I would start there then move up the creek above it. On the south end of your map where the creek comes in I would guess that in front of that Gravel Hill rd would be interesting to fish. Judging by what the visible creek looks like. I would fish around there then move up the creek.

Find the shad, you should be able to find shad balls roaming in the upper end of the lake. I'd definitely be looking up that little creek/river. I'd then target cover like wood on any sort of point that extends out and intersects where those shad are located at. Look for any timber break lines or high spots that hold cover. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jig fishing around that cover. With those water temps the bass will still be fattening themselves up for winter. Your starting depth will be dependant on clarity.  The clearer the water the deeper you should start fishing.

The point where the two creek channels come together.

Have caught fish there, but think we approached it wrong after reading a few posts by Catt.

I kind of thought that last time I went.  Argued with my buddy, I let him win  ::) so we started at the bridge and went east.

Would Google Earth Maps be good enough?  Or is there somewhere else to get better ones?

Never fished those two small draws. Have hit the upper cove and lower cove on the dam side of the lake, but never those small draws.

What does everyone think about the North bank across from the point? There is a good drop right there that gives the bass a quick move from shallow to deeper water and both feeder creeks kind of meet there. Was thinking of starting on that point then working across with a jig.
