Lost fishing Rod

Featured Replies

I lost a fishing rod the other day in about 7' of water.  I know exactly where I dropped.  I am headed back out there tomorrow.  What are some things I could try to get my rod back?

cast a deep diving crank with sharp hook that dives about 10 feet and just work that area like crazy. make sure your digging up the ground slightly, if not use a deeper diver. Was it just the rod? no line? no reel? If not, I would think you'd be hoping to hook an eye on the rod, which might be tough, but if you catch the rod, you could lift it and drag your crank along till it catches. Good luck.

I can swim and if all else fails that is what I am gonna try.

It has a reel attached to it but there is no line out.  I caught a 4lber saturday and set it down on the front deck to unhook the fish. It was hanging over the side and when I stood up a treble hook from another rod hooked my shirt and flipped my rod into the lake.  I never heard the splash but my rod was missing after I put the fish into the livewell.

I was thinking about using a pool skimmer pole rigged with an old fish stringer with all the things open.

If it is in 7 feet of water grab another long rod and stick ur arm in the water and wave it around with a treble on the end.  Don't drop that rod too though :) good luck

My first tourny my boater kicked his nice 400 rig over the side. Should have seen the look on his face. Water was chocolate milk in like 20 feet.

R A T T L E T R A P !

It sinks and will grab everything.

dang sucks man!

try getting a nice long rope that is like 40 pounds in strength and tie a huge treble hook on the end and add some resonable weight fling the rope as far as you can past were you think the rod is and drag along the bottom and when you snag something try getting a better hook placement on it just like fishing when you think you have it dont rush you might lose it!

this is how i got my small tackle box back when i was a kid and i droped my tackle box over the small brige.

I flipped a canoe at night and lost a Avid/Revo combo in about 8-10 feet of water. I went swimming in the dark and found my combo first dive. I suggest you do the same. ;)

I rigged up an old catfishing pole with heavy line tied to an old metal fish stringer.  I opened all the little clamps and bent them out just a little.  I managed to catch 3 fishing poles but none of them were mine.

It was amazing at all the stuff I pulled up from the bottom.  I spent 3 hours working the area real well.  I don't think it is where I thought it was.  I will give a try again in a few days.

Were they even nice rods?

Get you a 1 oz sinker(or the biggest you got) and rig a carolina rig and tie at least 2 size 2 trebles or bigger in tandom below the sinker. My buddy did this and retrieved my rod in about 2 minutes which he dropped overboard in about 15-16 ft of water. You won't have to buy any special snagging hooks ans also a rattletrap doesn't work as well because it rides nose down and may deflect.

Probably stating the obvious here, but you got to move around and change casting angle. If you happen to be casting paralell to the rod it will be harder too grab than if you happen to hit it cross ways.

This works wonders, I know a couple of guys that sank a boat and lost 10 or so rods and reels in the middle of a lake, they marked the spot and went back with heavy lines and fish stringers and were able to get back every rod and reel.

I too have used the fish stringer with the safety pin type clips. Open them up a little and tie a rope to the end and start throwing....
