Today i fished a new, largish pond. It is crazy clear, pretty deep for a pond, bottom covered in small aquatic plants maybe 6 inches tall. Its hard to fish the pond due to lots of trees surrounding it. The pond has two islands in it. There are lots of laydowns in it. I fished for about two hours today. I caught one small fish on a firetiger spinnerbait and two on wacky worm.

Trevor, seems you cannot walk around the pond due to the trees so you will have to look for openings  amongst the trees and brush where you can make underhanded casts.

I would suggest a shaky head presentation if you cannot cast overhead or sideways. A Texas rigged plastic may also work along with a wacky Senko. But a trick worm on a shaky head could prove productive.

Of course, you need a raft to float to the islands. But a raft costs money as does a small jon boat and then there is the question of where to launch your watercraft.

All I can do is suggest finding openings to cast and then throw plastics for clear water (watermelon) or treble hook baits for clear water and spinnerbaits if possible.

You may want to trim down your presentations, too, and fish finesse style.

I know how frustrating it is when you can't walk around the pond to get to where the trees and brush hang over the bank. 

You just have to locate wood and other structure in the water and places to cast without getting hung up in a tree.

I actually tried a shaky head, but i felt like i wasn't getting anywhere with it... the bottom has thick weeds as tall as the worm. When I caught the wacky-rig fish, it was on watermelon dingers.

And i will take up your suggestions and wade!

You have to be careful with this - there is a pond near my home that sounds similar - arrived one day to find the firetruck trying to extract a wader who was stuck in the silt/muck on the bottom.

Fished for an hour - one looker. Thats it. I fished spinnerbait, wacky, and dropshot.

Maybe give a T-rigged worm or a jig a shot.

props to you on that, but you wouldnt go waist deep in any water I fish and last long, haha.

Tube'n'waders would be my choice....inexpensive models are available and they are extremely safe. And I use standard swimming fins for mobility.

I have fished them many times over the years and often when I have boats of all sizes to choose from sitting in my garage. Can you catch large fish from them...well 12.90lbs is my biggest bass so far from a Tube but definitely one of the most memorable to date  That ride was better than anything Six Flags has ever had

I'd have to agree with Big 0.  Your situation calls for a float tube.  Back in the day, I did my share of wading and it occasionally got weird.  Get another inner tube and strap a milk crate inside it and you can drag alot of stuff with you, you can experiment to your hearts content.

Wacky rig works fine for me, i just pitch and let sink. give it one yoyo and then reel it in.

When's the last time you changed your line? What size gear are you using? The guys can correct me if I'm wrong but in real clear water aren't you supposed to downsize the presentation.

I actually changed my line a week ago, so its ok.
