How do you rig your jig trailers?

Featured Replies

Do you prefer craws or what?  The main question I have is how far do you let the craw hang behind the skirt?  I'm always torn on how far to leave it out.  I usually leave about 1/2" out.  Is this too little or too much?  I'm gonna probably switch to paca craws this year for trailers so this may help answer my question.

I like to use chigger craws and rage tail craws. I suggest buying the whole craw so that it can serve two purposes; a trailer or a craw. i usually trim mine so that when they are attached to the jig so that the base is over the spur at the head of the jig and that between 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the craws head is sticking out. This is just the was I do it, i'm sure you can do it different ways for different presentations. Good luck!

Many people never consider rate of fall when fishing jigs they just throw a trailer on what ever jig and away they go.

I use Gene Larew craw worms in 4, 5, & 6; if I want a really slow fall I'll use the 6 cutting a 1 ½ off the tail which leaves the body of the worm 2- 2 ½ beyond the skirt.

I throw a larger profile/bulkier jig than most people :)

Paca craws make the best jig trailers.

I've also caught fish on em texas rigged on a 1/0 hook believe it or not.

All of my jigs have gycb flappin hogs on them. I've tried paca craws, rage tail craws, brush hogs, and many others- but nothing gets bit like a flappin hog for me. I think the fact that it doesn't flap around and make a lot of vibration is what makes it great. Its a more subtle presentation, which is far more reliable in my opinion. When the jig hops and then hits the bottom, the 'paddles' flip forward and then very slowly bend back.

I cut the first 1/2 inch off of the top, so the flaps extend about an inch beyond the skirt. A picture is so much easier...
