A question for you bank fisher's

Featured Replies

Especially those that fly solo as I do 99.9% of the time.  What's an ideal way to get some photo's of you and your fish, in the same pic?  I've got a decent digital camera with a timer so I've got that end of it.  Do I need to get a tripod?  I could use the tailgate of my truck but it's usually a good distance from the water because it's a wee bit noisy.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

You need a tripod unless there is a stranger nearby willing to take the pictures.  Of course if you have long enough arms then you could take one of those weird looking ones of yourself.  Might take a couple tries to get both you and the fish in the picture.  I assume you'd like your face in the shot, and not just a wonderful shot of your pecs!  LOL.

I would just get a cheap tripod for only that reason (don't use it if it's windy).

I have a tripod I got at Target for like $20 and I use it for crappy conditions (river, mud, stuff like that). Gets the job done.

If I'm fishing myself though, I usually just lay the fish in about an inch of water, put the rod beside it, and shoot the pic. I don't like laying them on the dry ground.

I'm usually at a local city park pond with many people that are just there walking and are usually more than happy to snap a shot of me. If I'm alone I'll just whip out the measuring tape and get a shot and release it. There have been times when I've caught 17+" Bass and have waited a minute or two before I land it so someone walks by and I can ask them  ;)

This is what I use. It can wrap arround small trees or sit on your tackle box. It's great.

It's usually me and mother nature, and she's always busy doing other stuff so a willing passerby is never around.    Thanks for the ideas.  Later.

My other passion is photography and I've bought and tried just about every tripod out there. I like the gorilla pod shown a few posts above but I like my zipshot tripod better. It folds up to about 14" and in 2 seconds you can have it at full height. I like to use it with my p&s or my Canon 5D2 with a small lens and it's perfect. It's the Tamrac Zipshot Tripod.

If your camera supports it you can get a remote for it and just leave it on a tripod. Then when you catch one just look at the camera and "click"

Done 8-)

I like to lay the fish out next to a measuring tape.
