Any bass flyfisherman here? Need suggestions

Yeah Big Y makes great flies too. I don't think price will always dictate quality. I have bought some $2 and $3 flies that absolutely sucked.

Cabelas has them on sale from time to time. Bass Pro, but I haven't bought from them for a long time. Gander Mountain, but it's a limited selection. All decent quality. You might google discount flies and see what turns up!

Appreciate all the links and advice.  I think it is a good idea to start with a lower priced fly.  Hate to ruin or lose a $5 fly in the trees.  Looks like bigyflyco has decent flies at a reasonable price...not too expensive, not too cheap.  Guess I will order a few from there to learn on.  Thanks a bunch guys.

No help on where to buy the flies but, I will say that my regular fishing bud, is an old fly fisherman from Montana. He bass fishes with me now and still uses his fly rod. He gave up on the flies though. He throws nothing but a 7" purple worm. Here is one of his latest from about a month ago.

I'd be fishing a purple worm on any rod if I could catch fish like that.  Very nice.

Is it a worm and bare hook?  Or does he add a bit of weight to get it down?

That's nuts :) I hate paying a $1.50 for flies, let alone $3... Whatever you're buying better last a lifetime :P

Dwain - that fly looks like a cat toy... I'm going to take a few of my cats fake mice and see if they catch anything ha

Unless someone is overstocked, most cheap flies are, well, cheap. Usually tied by 13-year old girls in Indonesia or somewhere. If you can find a local tier you'll probably pay more, but get a fly that will last for more than one fish.

I tie my own, and sell a few to some local folks who would rather buy mine than ones from the big chain stores, or even the local fly shop - most of those are tied overseas somewhere, too.

I was just saying those "great deals" are cheap for a reason. For really good flies you'll have to pay more, or learn to tie your own.

Darhlberg Divers are another good one, I forgot about that.

He texas rigs it with 1/8 or 3/16th worm weight.
