How in the heck?

Featured Replies

Watchin some videos online and came across a scenario that is really similatr to the lake I fish. Thick,Deep,Heavy Mifoil.

Please tell me some of you have fished thick stuff like in this video and had success like the guys in this video.

I look at this stuff when im on the water and just cant fathom fishing it. Its SOOO Dense. How do fish get around in this stuff.Very intimidating

According to the catches in this video, ive been passing up on LOTS of opportunities at decent fish by not fishing the "junk". True?.

Is it safe to say that in the heat of summer, that most of the dinks will be caught in open water, because thats all I fish and thats all I catch.

I don't have the opportunity to face that stuff in my waters, but I wish that I had.

You are missing out and so am I. ;D

That looks like Guntersville starting about mid Summer.

Fun place to frog fish around the end of September.

I can understand it in a tournament where pounds are all that matter, but I don't get it in a recreational fishing situation.  Where's the fun in dragging in 10 lbs. of weeds with a fish unable to swim because of all those weeds?

I hear ya. I have gotten solid bites while fishing the weeds,(line started swimming away),set the hook,Felt the struggle and worked my butt off to get the 10#s of weeds back to the boat. Looked and looked, and there wasnt even a fish in all that mess.

Guess thats fishin for ya.

I replied to a similar comment a little while ago. For you, it's about the fight. For me, it's about the bite.

If i'm fishing in the thick crap, it's probably not because i can simply go out in open water and enjoy the fight of a fish at the end of a cast on light line, take a while to get that fish in, make a few casts and get another.

Dragging in a bass on heavy tackle is still fun for me because i'm usually fishing for only a few fish.

I do 95% of my fishing in the heat of summer though. I don't fish in the spring or the fall due to school.

That stuff is a lot more fun to fish, than to watch this guy who must suffer from palsy with the camera on his head.

Anybody notice the mistakes he was making?  I saw two for sure.

That's the only way to fish Kissimmee in the summer.  Sharpen the blades on your trolling motor and plow on in.

Kind of hard to tell on my laptop's screen but it looked like he was pitching to holes in the cover. It may sound weird but I wish lakes around here had more hydrilla, grass, general slop etc. Maybe 1-2 out of 4-5 lakes nearby MIGHT have some dense vegetation like that, depending on the year, water clarity, location.

Hauling fish out of thick cover like that is one of my favorite ways to fish. Luckily there's plenty of nearby ponds that almost turn solid with grass/algae in the summer. At least I can get a little fix.

Yes you are missing out. I fish a lake, home lake that is very similair. The weeds are as heavy but in 12 foot of water. Weeds grew to with 3 feet of the surface. The bigger bass have always come out of that type of junk. Use the right gear and it is not much of a problem.

Down here in South and Central Florida it is essential to do that, particularly when conditions are tough like in winter after a front and in the heat of summer. I much more enjoy open water chuck and wind but it necessary in tournament fishing. 65# braid, 1 to 1 and 1/2 oz tungsten and something slender like a Gambler BB Cricket. A the end of the day the boats a mess, you're a mess and maybe you had 10 bites all day but if you can get in 5, you might just catch up a 20# bag. I have to constantly self-talk myself into doing it.
