New to the NC fishing scene

Featured Replies

Hey guys.  I grew up in South Alabama and I've been in NC for quite a while now.  I mostly fished ponds and the Tombigbee river but I recently inherited a bass boat and I've been having a blast fishing in central NC.

I'm amazed by the number of quality lakes within driving distance.  I've fished Jordan for a few years with a buddy of mine but I plan on hitting all the major lakes around this fishing season.  I've been to High Rock and I'm going to Badin Sunday.  If anybody has any suggestions in helping me map out my trips they would be greatly appreciated.  I've heard good things about Harris, Kerr, and Falls.  Anybody know which lakes around are better in Spring/Summer/Fall?

Thanks guys and I hope to see you out on the water.

Hey JRod. I live in the Charlotte area. Here we have Wylie, and Norman, Mountain Island Lake. I fish mainly Wylie. I also hit the mountain streams a bit near Jefferson and Lenoir.

Wylie has some awesome fishing and a good deal of pros cut their teeth on Wylie.  In my experience, you can't go wrong on the Catawba river chain anywhere. If you can, plan a trip to the coast and find a charter boat with a few guys to take you deep.

Did that a couple years ago, went 60 miles out, had a frikkin' ball.

Lake James I hear is also supposed to be awesome for trout, that is one of the spots I want to hit soon.

Hey JRod welcome to BR. Looks like things are really picking up in NC. ::) That's in reference to a lot of NC guys joining up in the past few weeks.

Welcome to the forum, Jrod!

Welcome from western NC! From what I hear, there are some huge fish coming out of Falls Lake. Good luck!

Cool, I plan on going to Falls after sunrise service next Sunday.  Any idea what they're hitting?

PS Thanks to everyone on the forum for making the noobs feel welcome.

Welcome from one newbie to another. I live around the raleigh area and fish the same lakes you do. Mainly harris and jordan. Harris some days will make you break your rod from being mad. Jordan can to but is a little more forgiving.
