I am new to bass fishing.  Can someone please tell my why the weight for a flipping shot is tied directly to the leader, rather than attached with a clip, thereby making it easier to change weights?

that is a good question, a drop shot with easy change weights.....HMMMM.....

When your flipping with a drop shot rig (which I do alot of) your using heavy line (50lb braid for me ) so breaking off the entire rig is not often a problem. Standard drop shot weights with the little line pinch clip are a big problem, put those in heavy cover where they need to be and you'll pull them off your line all the time, even with a knot tied on the end of the line. Those little swivels are just too flimsy for "flip shotting" as I call it.

    We just might have ourself a new craze in dropshot fishing thanks to you!

Pitching a short dropshot rig isn't exactly a new idea.

if ya dont want something the size of a clip you can tie to a split ring or a small norman speed clip both are quick and small and easy to change weights
