My suggestion would be to try a few roostertails, (brown trout pattern, and few black with silver blades), along with a good selection of grubs(3 - 4"), in black or brown or any other natural color.. I rig up my grubs on offset worm hooks that come just short of tail section, with 1/8 or 1/16 oz bullet weight and do quartering casts..

Now mind you I was using these from the bank and had plenty of luck with them...

ive had really good success the last couple years with the yum crawbug. i think its the 3.5" size in a dark purple (almost black back) and a lighter purple/marroon belly. usually i start out with a meps spinner and if i can't find any really active fish i switch straight to the craw bug. gets 'em just about every time.

and believe it or not, banjo minnows are almost always an option. i know there is a lot of "if'fy" feelings about em but i have had amazing trips using a 4" minnow in just about any color or throwing the frog that they have.
