Crankbait Help

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I am looking to step up my tackle box regarding crankbaits. I have never been a big crankbait fisherman, but am wanting to start to become a more well rounded fisherman.

But before I start buying I want to make sure I am buying the right stuff.

What would you all recommend when it comes to crankbaits, obviously I need a good variety for the different conditions and depths. I am wanting to buy between 10-20 crankbaits. any idea on what to get?

I have also considered just buying a bunch of used ones off ebay, is this a bad decision?

If you think you have a good variety of crankbaits, take a picture of your tackle box and post it!

I am really at step one, so if you all could buy 10-20 crank baits, what would you buy? what depths and colors?

Thanks in advance!

Four Shad Raps (two size 5, two size 7)

Two Bomber Fat A 1.5"

Two Bomber Model 4A

Two Bomber Fat A 2"

Two Rebel Deep Wee R's

Two Luhr Jensen Baby Hotlips

That should cover you from top to bottom. Buy some in firetiger or black colors for murky water. Also buy natural baitfish and crawfish type colors.

I love wiggle warts though too, as well as the fat free series.

Patrick, do some homework right here. Search for crankbait articles by chris, stringjam, natural and CJ these guys are crankbait fishermen who can help with your selection and are not selling a product. There are a lot of quality cranks that do not cost a fortune.

Look for the Daiwa Peanut, just switch out the hooks though.

I would pick 4 patterns and get 1 for each depth range(4', 8',12', 16'). I have the most luck with the following colors...

-ms american shad by lucky craft

-sexy shad

-white with black splatter on back and yellow belly

-ghost shad (translucent)

Rapala Shad Raps are always a good start, in all variations (original, shallow, and jointed). Rapala DT Series are good also. XCalibur Xr50, and Redeye Shad lipless crankbaits should be part of your arsenal also.

I'm not selling anything, just telling you what has worked for me over the years. These are all proven baits.

Falcon

dont forget shallow cranks! baby -1's, storm sub wart, rapala dt 4.....
