Senkos or Tubes for Smallies??

Featured Replies

I'm heading to NH next week and I thought I was ready with my soft plastics until I started reading this forum!  It's a smaller, clear lake with smallies, perch, trout, large mouth and pike for the most part.  I bought 5" & 4" Senkos for T-rig and wacky rig, some Zoom trick worms, some Baby Flukes and my assorted Cranks etc.  I'm seeing a lot of talk here that "Tubes" and "Hula-Grubs" are the better choice for Smallies.  Should I change my line-up or work what I have?  As you most likely can tell I'm a relative newbie!

Thanks for any advice.

You're fine, those are just some other ideas. If you are fishing still water (lake) in relatively shallow water (<12') I would suggest picking up a pack or two of the GYCB Fat Ika. This is my #1 bait. Tubes are also a "standard" for both largemouth and smallie fishing, I would want some of them, too.

Absolutely get some GYCB hula grubs, rigged on a 1/4oz rock hopper jighead they are like smallie candy. Other than that your set to go, you might also want to consider picking up some hard jerkbaits like Smithwick Rogues, husky jerks, and LC pointers.

Thanks for the replies.  I do have some different jerk baits.  No LC but a few Rapalas and Mepps products.

I picked-up some tubes but they didn't have the hula-grubs.  I'll check around though.
