In Line Spinners

Featured Replies

What size, and brands do you guys use for smallies on these lures?  I use Blue Fox minnow spins in 1/4 oz mostly, but wanted to go back to a mepps or rooster tail.  Didn't know what size you guys use, or preferred colors, brand, etc?

Mepps Comet 3#, Agila white/silver #4, Black/Chart fury.

#3 Mepps with gray squirrel tail treble and silver blade.

Im a Wordens guy.  02 Yellow with a silver blade is a favorite of mine.  I also throw white, black and silver frequently and the various tiger designs.  I throw various sizes also in the river near my house.  Anywhere from 1/16 to 1/4 oz.

Mepps Agilia, no dressing, silver or gold.

Size 4 or 5. Go big or go home.

When I first came to Northern NY in the mid 70's I had no boat and walked/waded several streams that emptied into Lake Ontario.  Other then a few topwater baits and some small rapalas, Mepps in-line spinners were my #1 goto bait.  Over the years got away from them, but they did catch a lot of smallies and a lot of big smallies.

I like mepps personally.  I have a friend who swears by panther martins.  Both always seem to pull weight when nothing else is producing.

I use my own homemade inlines.  8-) The catch is definitely sweeter.

Does anyone use Joe's flies with any luck?

Joe fly's are fine for small trout.  The manufacturer uses regular thread to tie on the hooks and after a short time the thread rots, so you have to get new ones quite often.  I have better luck with a larger inline spinner, I think #4's.  I see that mepps is making a one ouncer this year that I'm going to try on some bigger trout, largemouths, etc.
