Fished it once.  Nothing but freaks and dinks on that lake.

Love that place. If you fish 8 fish team tournies there in the spring or fall you better have 30+ of smallies to win. I have heard of 8 for 34 and 35 to win. Hard to get on good fish but once you do it is amazing. Some decent largie fishing as well.

Tin,

If you ever see a green-metalic dual-consoled ranger R72 that has gold trim on it, I am the well-rounded guy with a dark moustaiche on the front deck.

It's got an evinrude 115 on the back of that 17 footer.

NY numbers on the boat.

Stop me and say hello, please.

JFrancho, who did you fish with that day ? ::)

If it is closer I would fish Twin Lakes all day before Candlewood. Place has some of the biggest largies around. I have seen numerous tournaments there were 5 largies went over 20 pounds. I even saw a guy in a night T whack 26 for 5. Place is amazing.

Unfortunately, CT has increased their "out of state" license fee this year to $80.00. I can find some more than adequate waters right here in MA, without shelling out that kind of cash. I have heard a lot of good things about Candlewood however. I'd love to give that place a whirl in the summertime.  :)

Last I knew they were planning on trying to repeal it because of the "outrage" for lack of a better term.

Connecticut DOUBLED all of it's fishing licenese fees this year, both for residents, and non-residents.

I have heard there is a motion to change that.

Anyone know a way how we can be heard about that ?

Many other states have raised their fishing license fees as well, just not to that degree.

type ctfisherman.com go to their forum and see the Sportman's Alliance of CT sub forum and you'll get some good info on what is currently being done.

I've been on the wood only a few times as I just began tourney fishing - great smallies. Twin is my favorite lake(s) in CT. That 4lb largemouth in my avatar is from Candlewood.

I think it was the PAA this weekend that put on a program about Candlewood smallie fishing. Great information! Just wish the licensing tax was so high.

2/10/10 - Yes, it was the TV Program, "Fish PAA" (Professional Anglers Association) that I saw the program on. I have it on my DVR at the moment. If you look up the program on the internet, I'm sure there must be a clip or two from that program.

I'll be doing some tournaments with Orange County Bassmasters this summer and I think Candlewood is on the schedule. I'll post how it goes.

Candlewood is a awsome fishery. Atleast it was when we fished it 5 years ago. 5 fish for 15+ is not uncommon. I have some great spots there unfortunately I can't put you on them without a map.

Gitzits, crawfish cranks, jerkbaits and worms seem to be my best lures.
