out of my last 5 trips to toledo bend and sam rayburn, i have used stanley ribbits. and have zero'd. i will go behind them with a devils horse or mag torpedo and catch fish. they are a good search bait i guess but i cant catch on them. i have caught fish on them in ponds but never the big fish lakes. now i just use the legs for spinnerbait and jig trailers.

No, you're not crazy, you just don't like Ribbits. Of the three frogs/toads I've used, Ribbits are my choice. To each his own.

I love them personally! I put buzzbait blades in front of them to add more noise on windy days.

My all time favorite soft plastic frog. Fish them around lillys/weeds, or ontop of scattered weeds, they will produce. Great frog, don't give up on it just yet.

They have floaters(available at Wal-Mart) but in very limited colors.

how do you rig these so they stay upright, every time i fish them they turn over?

I use Zoom Horney Toads & Stanley Ribbits. In my opinion the Zoom is the more subtle baits of the 2, sometimes they seem to prefer one over the other. It's likely that when you threw them it might not have been the right time to use Frog bait or on those occasions they prefer one more like the Horney Toad. Same with topwater walkin' baits, I throw Sammy's , Spooks & Vixens, each one of these can be the bait of choice on a given day. The Ribbit is a proven bait, however you have to throw what you are confident in.

this year stanley has a new rigging hook ... its weighted in the front bottom ... i havent tryed one yet ,,, but they sure look like they would keep that frog up right ... this is the olny reason i prefer the zoom horney toads ,,, they run true and dont spin over and over ... just IMO

             they make some called high floaters. they float, but for me they dont run true. a lot of times they run upside down. the others i have that i dont like are the hotfeet green/orange feet. i have some weighted hooks for those, and it keeps them running right, but i still dont catch on them. and yes fish them like a buzzbait but throw them in slop.

They just were not on the frog bite.You know how it is.Sometimes they won't touch the torpedos,poppers and such but will dog a frog instead.

Imo the Ribbit is the best all around frog on the market,slowest retrieve.However my second best is the sizmic toads.This bait has the most subtle sound and is incredible in shallow water when it is very calm out. The best use I found for the rage toad is choppy water and blazing retrieves.

For a subtle retrieve with a nice wake try the Tiki Snake, I've caught a fair number of nice fish on this bait.

I mostly use them as a buzzer. However, when I'm fishing from shore, I often let them sink and hop them off the bottom once it hits shallow water. I've caught a bunch of bass using the Ribbit, pretty much like a jig, in clear, shallow water. I learned that trick by accident on a day I was getting skunked. I think I stopped reeling, to answer a phone call or something, and it sat there for a few minutes. A little guy picked it up right of the bottom. Now I use that technique pretty regularly. I can fish a Ribbit all day. I love those things!

you should never think youre crazy if you don't like a bait or if it isnt working for you, every person has their own set of likes and dislikes. If its not for you its not for you, there are plenty of other options, if the torpedo and devil's horse are working for you then just stick with those.

Stanley Ribbits are sweet baits.  I've been on them for a few years now and have had my share of problems with them rolling over and ultimatley costing me fish.

Stanley makes a hook with a light weight at the nose (mentioned above) that works well and is the best I've found for overall consistency.  I've also use the Zoom Frog hooks on them, though they are not weighted so they'll roll on you.  To remedy this, try using a lightly weighted swimbait hook.  You don't want a lot of weight, just enough to act as a keel.  

One other thing, make sure you right it perfectly straight, if you mess it it up, re-rig it till you have it straight.  It will help with the rolling too.

They have had that hook since the Ribbit was introduced! I use to get mine from Boater's World.  

No, you're not crazy.  Try rigging them with MR. Blitz "Toad Toters" or a simular hook. They kind of look like swimbait hooks and are hard to describe.   Mr. Vince miller showed me how to rig them at Fish' N'Stuff in North Little Rock AR( MAD PROPS) I think he has a website, but if you call, he will tell you the exact size to order.
