Revo Sx Manual Brake

Featured Replies

Just got a new AG Revo SX delivered. I mostly use spinning reels, and this is only my 2nd baitcaster. When tuning the manual brake for a 3/4 oz jig, I find that I have to tighten it near completely to stop the bait from falling; not so on my Quantum accurist. Wondering is this is typical or not

If you are referring to the cast control knob then yes this correct. It has to be fairly tight to stop a 3/4oz lure from falling way to fast. Be sure when you set the cast control knob that your dial for the magnetic brakes is set to zero, then adjust the cast control knob.

Brakes will make ZERO difference when setting the spool tension. Set spool tension (cast control) for the weight of the lure, and brakes for casting conditions and ablility.

Thanks; the AG manual refers to it as the mechanical brake, probably lost in translation. Considering this, it doesn't sound like you can tune the cast control to a heavier swim bait

I use a Revo SX for swimbaits, but I'm tossing 2oz. and under swimbaits. I set the spool tension fairly tight, not tightened down all the way. So far I have had no problems tossing 6"Spros and 6" Hudds and I loosen the knob for lighter swimbaits.

I also just got a new Revo SX and noticed the same thing that you gotta crank the knob down but then I loosened it all the way to practice putching/flipping then forgot and bombed a 3/4oz swim jig. I figgured it would back lash but nope it flew for ever and I have the mag brakes set at 50%. I heard the reels are finiky about back lashes but iv been fine with mine.

Be sure that the spacers are all present inside the cast control cap and that they are not dimpled. I get a lot of reels through the shop missing those spacers.

Thanks for all the info. I'd have to look at the parts break down, I have no idea where these spacers are, or what they look like.
