St. Croix Eyecon

Featured Replies

I was checking these out at Cabelas and wondering what everyone or anyone thought of them. They are a good price. Thinking about picking one up for dropshots. I know there supposed to be for walleye but what makes the difference.

Their actions are just geared more towards walleye presentations, in terms of lure weight, tip action/speed, and overall speed and power of the rod. That's not to say you can't do it with one of them, but I'd think that you'd be better suited to finding a rod that's geared more towards the intended use. I think, in some ways, drop shotting will overload the Eyecon tips. The most suitable would likely be the "Snap Jig" as that's pretty similar to the action you're after for DS.

I was holding a 7' light eyecon today and thinking it would be really nice for throwing little shad rap type cranks and grubs. No funds for it right now though. They should be a good rod for dropshotting though since it's kind of like jigging for walleye.

The Eyecons are the same blank material as the Mojo bass rods , they're just geared toward lighter presentations associated with walleye fishing , but that doesn't mean the couldn't fit the bill for similar light bass techniques
