how about save the hooks until one of them actually needs hooks. for example, i was throwing a sexy shad earlier this week and just hooked the lure to the rod when i was leaving, time i got to the car the hooks were embedded in my jacket, had to cut them out to remove them from my jacket and replace the hooks later on

I wouldn't change them out either. I don't think the red hooks make any difference to the fish.

I half heard something over the weekend on one of the cable fishing shows about putting red trebles on the front hanger, and leaving the nickel trebles on the back. Didn't catch the rationale for that configuration, but if they preach it on the tube, it's gotta be gospel, right?

The rationale is that the fish will focus on the red when striking the bait, and since the red is near the front, each strike will result in better hookups.

Whether or not it makes a difference is up to whoever is using it. If it gives you more confidence then go for it, but like the other guys already said, there's not really any need to change them out and waiting until one needs to be replaced is a way make the most out of the hooks you use.

Just because it's on TV does not mean it's gospel lol. Have you seen some of those informercials?

i change all my hooks to red ones out of the box i feel like ive caught alot more fish out of the box when i do so and its more of the confidence builder more then anything but thats just they way i feel. i would change them all lol but have the fun of fishing either way.

Red will look great on the BG or any of the others for that matter.

I've got better things to do with my time than changing hooks when it isn't needed.

Change when needed and don't fall for the red is better hype.

Front hook if your going to change them.

I just replaced a broken treble with a red, because that's all I could find in the size that I needed. I really haven't put much stock into red hooks, though. I didn't feel that they helped me at all with soft plastics in the last couple of years.

I've never bought any red hooks. But some of the lures that I've purchased had them on there. If that happens, I swap out and put a nickel on the back and use the red up front. If I had a choice, I'd have two nickel ones on the lure. I usually throw a red treble up front on a long smithwick. I've had good luck on the bait in general, I don't think the red hooks really help much (but surely it doesn't hurt nothin, right?) Its the first color to lose its color in the depths of the water anyway, I can't see it doing much good in any water that is not clear or anything the sun is not penetrating deep on.
