If you do some searching around here on the forums, a while back somebody posted up a few pictures of a tool they had or made. Basically they took a set of non-grooved pliers and drilled a hole in one side of them. Line the hole up with one side of the pin, and squeeze. The pin pops through the hole. Then you pull it out the rest of the way. Looked like a very easy way to do it.

Been doing it that way for years. I've scratched up enough pins, and done enough minor damage to the edges of the spools that I've decided I need a better way.

I have one of those Hedgehog tools on order. Not sure when it will arrive, but I will post a report after the first time I use it.

Bantam1 posted a picture that I used to make a tool. Old pair of pliers with a quarter of one of the jaws cut out with a grinder. It works perfectly.

I solved the problem on cleaning the spool bearing behind the pin by taking the cap of a Sharpie (next up in size from the regular pen), gluing a heavy rubber washer to the base so it will stand up, filling it with naptha, then putting the spool shaft inside the cover with the bearing submerged in naptha. It fits perfectly and it can soak as long as you like. I blow dry it with a computer keyboard blower.

That's pretty clever.

I started this thread a while back asking how to remove Revo spool bearings for cleaning. This is the one that SoFlaBassAddict referred to that shows a DIY tool to remove the pin. Since then, I've been setting the spool on top of a Five Hour Energy bottle full of lighter fluid to clean that bearing. It's works great.

I let it slip at the time, since I figured if it could help some beginners, the wider the distribution the better. But your getting all hot under the collar over Baluga's innocent use of a single picture pushed me over the edge and I had to set the record straight.
