Featured Replies

Buying a new casting rod should i get an abu garcia veritas or an e21 carrot stik wild both 100$

Have not heard anything good about the Carrot Sticks, Veritas feels good in the hand, but haven't fished with one.

I've been very impressed with the two Veritas that I picked up. Initially they were meant as back-up rods but I've been fishing both of them pretty regularly on small ponds locally. I bought a 6'6" Med Fast and a 7'6" MHF. Both are surprisingly lightweight, and both have very good sensitivity for the price. I definitely had lower expectations than what the rods have performed to thus far.

I've not heard anything good about the Wild rods, other than the price, which soon becomes very apparent. I've only messed with a friends a couple times, and he took it back after a week, roughly. Not impressed with the rod at all in terms of weight, in terms of the way it felt, or in the way that it reacted to loading. It felt quite dead overall.

Thanks what length and action would be best for topwater

I'd go with a 6'6" MF.

I have a 76mhf veritas and love it paired with a revo sx I haven't heard a good thing bout the carrot sticks as well

I have both veritas and carrot stik. I actually have two veritas and love them both. I have one carrot stik which is a replacement for a carrot stick I broke last year. It is a 7'3" heavy action. I was jig fishing on the ledges of Lake Guntersville when I felt the familiar tap-tap. I set the hook and the rod broke into 5 pieces. It sounded like a shotgun went off in my boat. I caught the fish, a 16 lb. blue cat. (not what I was hoping for). The rod was replaced for free, but the guy at the tackle store said that e21 would be charging a $38 processing fee on all future rods. I got lucky because they were just starting to initiate the fee the next week.

Having said all that, I would definitely chose the veritas, they fish great.

definately veritas!! great rods!

I love my Veritas, it's the best rod I have. Once my Gander Mtn restocks I'm getting another. Have only had one carrot stick, not the one you mentioned, and it broke the first day I used it. Not buying another.

I have heard problems with both rods breaking espeically the Carrot Stix. Do some research on each rod. If you are set on one or the other, I say get the Abu. Good luck!!

With the somewhat questionable reliability of e21's previous (more expensive) offerings, I don't think I'd be too interested in their "budget" rod.

I say Veritas, but only if you can hold it in your hand and inspect it first. Some of the ones I've handled have had alot of excess epoxy, in some cases it was bad enough to make the hook holder almost useless.

IMO, Abu has the better product and customer service. I really like that Abu lets you return the rod to the retailer. I lost a guide insert on one of my Veritas rods and brought it in to BPS for a no-hassle refund, today. Many brands (St Croix, Loomis, etc...) want you to return to the factory. It's really nice to be able to bring the rod straight into BPS and exchange it without dealing with all the BS (processing fee, shipping, downtime not having the rod, etc...)

I have three Veritas rods and I will be buying more.

I like my carrot stix, and I would buy another. To me, abu garcia stuff is cheap.
