I don’t have any experience with either rod but for fishing plastics I prefer a 6’8”-7’ rod, lure weight of 3/8-3/4 or 1/4-1 oz, & an extra fast action.

Veritas is a nice stick... In this price range people like the Shimano Compre and the Fenwick HMG as well.

I prefer 6'8 for most plastic applications except heavier jigs.

The Shimano Compre is a great rod for the money. I bought a couple of them 3 years back and still use them to this day. It is a very sensitive, durable, and fairly lightweight rod, I would definitely recommend them to anyone w/ a $100 budget. They are hard to beat for the money

I've read of several other people having the same problem. Maybe they mishandled the rods, maybe they didn't. I'd buy something else rather than hope I get a good one.

I've read nothing but good about the rods WanderLust and SquareBill suggested. If you don't mind buying used, you can widen your selection to Crucials, some Powells, Falcons, Daiwas, etc.

I picked up a couple Falcon Originals...a medium and medium heavy...when visiting in Florida earlier this year. I wanted a couple cheap rods to leave there since I only get there once a year. Too expensive to ship rods back and forth. Anyway, I was fishing 10" weightless worms. Had no problem feeling them dragging across the lily pads. Could feel when the plastic "stuck" and then released. Didn't fish anything off the bottom with them so can't comment on that. Probably one of my best buys for $70 ($35 apiece). :D

I've had nothing but solid performance from my Veritas. I'm sure Ike's broken a few, but mine has been holding up well.

Lamiglas has entered the $100 market with the Excel line. Made in the USA. I have the swimbait rod, and it is awesome.

Compre rods do not get the look they should.

Compres are awesome little rods, as well as the cheaper clarus. Just don't ever touch a crucial or Cumara you'll want to upgrade bad! I was more than satisfied with my compres and Clarus rods until I fished a crucial

Went with a Veritas 7' MH. Got to use it for a few hours today and I love it. I can't believe how light it is, it's like night and day coming from only using cheaper rods.

These rods are great! I have four of them, 703C, 704C, 734C, and 7116C. They have served me well for about a year now. The 703C ML is my favorite, the 704C and 734C make excellent worm rods in my opinion. I use the 704 for t-rigs and the 734 for weightless stuff.

What a shock that on this board you ask a question about brand a and brand b and everyone wants to talk about brand c. Oddly enough there are brands other than shimano, who'd a thought. Rods are purely a subjective thing. I know for myself,I target species other than just bass. I fish from both shore and kayak/canoe. Typical rods these days are made for just Mr. Bassmaster at the bow of his glittery bassboat. Decide what you need and go from there. Personally I am happier with the TFO rods Ive gotten recently than the Cumara rods Ive been unhappy with for over a year. They have shorter rear grips and shorter lengths available. I dont want a 7'2" rod with a flippin and pitchin rear grip. So find what you like and go from there. I also have Veritas rods and love them ttoo, I would recommend either.

I was kind of interested in hearing some thoughts on the TFO rods myself. I've handled one in the store and it felt pretty nice.

I have a TFO 665, I use it for pitching jigs, so far no issues with it, I catch bass with it. IMO it's good value for a $100 rod. Or you can look at it as an $85 rod if you wait until the next 15% off sale.

My recent experience with a Veritas wasnt positive - the tip broke right above the second guide. Im hoping the replacement performs better but Im a little apprehensive after my first go round.

For what its worth, Abu Garcia's support isn't terrible but it hasn't been the best either.

i abuse the heck outa my gear rods especially and my veritas is still flawless its been droped on rocks ramed into the banks hanging out of the back of the canoe tangled in trees well treking threw the woods for me to just rip it out with all my might and havent even bent a guide yet. iv even thrashed it around like a light saber after looseing a fish no issues.
