Heading To New Lake Help!

Featured Replies

I am heading to Apac lake Friday and I am looking for some help on lure selection. The 300 acre lake averages 8ft and goes to about 20 i would guess there is tons of flooded timber (which is not my strong point) with some spare vegetation the water clarity is stained to murky. What are some must have baits/techniques? thanks guys

jigs

Any idea on water temps? I'd be fishing T rigged soft plastics and jigs, rattle traps, square bills, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits.

Topwater - So many different kinds, it's hard to pick just one. Get a walk-the-dog bait and hit it in the morning.

Crankbaits - Flooded timber calls for some deflections and straight on "beatings". Run your crankbaits right into the timber if you can, and feed the lure some slack line for a reaction bite.

Jigs - If you need to slow down, there is no better way than to flip and pitch a jig. If you are casting, make sure to pass your target. If you are flipping/pitching, hit the timber from all different angles. Vary your speed to get a bite and go from there.

Plastics - Last but not least, have your senkos and creature baits just in case you need something a bit slower and more precise. Black and Blue is tried and true.

Hope to hear some good results!

thanks guys. No clue on water temps but it has been in the high 80s and 90s here so I would guess water temp is pretty high. I am going in with spawn/post spawn in mind. Bluebasser is there a reason for thee square bill over a regular style bait?

A square bill crank won't get hung up as much.

A square bill crank won't get hung up as much.

Because the bill deflects the lure off the branches.
