Spooked Fish

Recommended Posts

Are spooked fish catchable? i went out last night after easter dinner and i must of kicked 50 fish off the banks i dont own a boat so i bank fish but i always seem to scare away the fish. some spots i know or see that look like they hold fish ill hold back and make far casts to some times it works some times it dont. but most of the time ill aproach a spot to see a swirl or actually see the bass take off. i always try to bomb a lure out to head it off and try to get bit but it never works. are these fish catchable or no. i try to mark the spot and come back carefuly cuz they usually return but it seems no matter what i do they spook even if im 30ft away it seams they sense im looking and bolt. what are your ideas

Usually not that quick... If I spook fish, I stand really still and wait awhile then start fishing. They usually come back if you can act like a ninja :)

When I run into that situation, I always cast parallel to shore with a soft plastic jerkbait texas rigged with no weight. Cast it about 6 inches onto the bank and drag it into the water. Be ready to set the hook, because they will demolish it as soon as it hits the water sometimes.

You should be making a few casts while you are still 15 yards away from the bank if possible. That way you don't spook the fish but still have a chance at catching them.

I do make parallel cast when I can some of the spots though are just little holes surounded by trees or bushes that are just big enought to cast in and only straight out. But I do do the weightless fluke along banks when I can I carry 5 dam poles with me one has a weightless fluke for just that its killer

this happens to me all the time at a pond, i cross a bridge over a small creek, a couple steps off the bridge up a slope and im at the edge of the pond and see bass swimming off. recently ive had luck throwing a baby rage craw weightless out after them and they circle back for it, thats if i have a rod ready to go, i usually only take no more than two when pond fishing. another things that works is walk on down the bank and fish for a bit, after awhile throw a spinnerbait along the bank past that spot and i will get bit on the retrieve

I agree, just make more casts since you know they are on the bank..Super Fluke weightless, or senko weightless.

ill climb the slide at the playground and cast from there lol the spot runs next to my old school its over looked ALOT i rarely see others there most people fish below the falls this spot is a wide shallow basin above the falls with a channel along one side. in the summer i never see people and i get people asking me how i catch fish or if theres even fish there because it get coverd about 95% with lilly pads. i think the smallest bass i caught there was 2.5lbs most are in that 4-5 range and the pike are all over the board dinks to 40" heck even the bull head i got outa there last year was big i caught it on a SK shadalicious swimbait!!

the down side being next to the school and a playground is not only do i spoke fish but alot of times theres dogs and kids running around throwing sticks in the water. the other side is the town nature park but that sides not nearly as productive 1.5ft to 2.5ft deep for about 150yards the school side is the side the falls are on and its 1.5 slopiing out to 4ft then drops to 16ft the shelf to the channel is maybe 15-20ft wide then the channel is maybe 10ft wide then it just gets sandy and shallow all the way across to the other side.

When bass are nose up to the bank the best option is to put the lure on the shore and slide it in the water. Another option is use a drop shot with the weight stuck on the bank and you twitch your lure about where you think they are. Shallow fish are hard to catch and at times if they can see you from a distance lower your profile and try your best to place the lure in the water without much splash or disturbance. Also try to keep your line up if your paralleling the bank so that the line won't lay over the bass's back which will also spook them. If you can see the fish because of how clear the water is you actually stand a good chance to still catch it. You want to use a drop bait like a soft plastic and pitch ahead of the fish and try to get their attention either on a slow fall or working the lure on the bottom. If you can't see how the fish is reacting to your presentation as they move out deeper it is kinda hard to coax them to bite mainly because you can't see them. In areas were I can't see the fish I try to use a moving bait to draw the fish to my lure. You figure they are nose up to the bank because they are either actively feeding or about to unless your dealing with spawning fish.
