I finally got my hands on the dobyns rods and was really impressed. I handled the 703and 704C in the store. The 704 really didn't seem that "heavy" of an action. My question, for light cover jig fishing, mostly 3/8 oz and T-rigs, which rod would be best? It's so hard to tell in stores and i don't know a soul that has one to try on the water. Any help would be appreciated.

I fish plastics up to around 1/4 oz weight + plastic on my 703. Above that, and I'll change to the 704

Dobyns definitely seems to overrate the rod power when you compare them to other manufacturers. The 4 power "heavy" rods seem much more like medium heavy rods to me. Theres not much you can't do with a 704. Great stick. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Generally speaking the sweet spot for casting weight is near the middle of the manufacturers reccomendation. Inthis case, 1/2oz for the 703 and 5/8 oz for the 704. Based on the OP, you're on the lighter end and light cover pointing toward the 703. If you don't have a lot of setups and want versatility as well, you're well within the effective range of the 704 also.
