A Little Drop-Shotting Info Needed

Featured Replies

I guess I'll start off with the round ball style weights 1/4oz because walmart has them for two bucks. What size and style hooks should I use for 4 and 6 inch roboworms and other hand poured worms of the same likeness? I have some 1/0 Owner Mosquito hooks, will they work fine? I also have some size 1 Gamakatsu Split-shot/drop-shots. I'm planning on ordering some Gama Octopus hooks but again don't know what size to get.

If someone could explain to me how to tie my hook with a palomar and get the hook to be in the right position would help to.

I've been using the same ball weights you mentioned but I'm also wanting to try the long cylinder style weights as well, just haven't figured out which ones I want yet. I'm also using the same Gammy hooks too and they have been working great for me. You've pretty much covered the same baits I have been throwing on the drop shot too. The 6" Roboworms have produced the best for me.

To tie the hook, hold the hook like you want it to be when rigged up. Then run the line down through the hook and then back up through, making a long loop (so you have enough line to tie on the sinker then. Now, just tie the palomar knot. One more thing I do before adding the sinker is take the tag end of the line and run it back down through the hook. This seems to help me keep the hook running in the right direction. Add the weight and you're ready to go. Hope this helps!

Its all about the action you want, I dont remember the sizes I use off hand but as far as hooks go the more action I want from the bait the smaller hook I use and the larger weight. And the less action the bigger hook and lighter weight, experimentation is the biggest factor in finesse fishing

Personally, I use 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz. more than any other weight. A #4 Gamakatsu Split Shot/Drop Shot hook works great with those baits.
