I just bought this rod and reel but i cant seem to get the backlash to stop if i tighten the drag and cast it doesn't go far and if it is loose i get a bunch of backlash. Does anyone know what i should do or how i can stop all the back lashing that is happening. Any help would be great.

Have you ever used a baitcast reel ? They have a spool tension knob and usually brakes that you have to set correct.

Im thinking you are turning the tension knob..the drag is on the handle it is star shaped. The tension knob is on the same side as the drag, the brakes are on the other side of the reel. Try this..set the brakes to zero and hold your rod up and press the thumb bar to see how quickly your bait falls to the floor, adjust the tension knob until the bait slowly falls to the floor with out backlashing. Now set the brakes to around 6-7 til you get used to casting and then later try using less brakes. Hope this helps.

i was being cheap one day and bought this combo. is this the blue reel? if so, it isnt great at all. i have the worst problems with backlashes on this reel. it stays at home. its a small compact reel ive used a few times and brought in fish no problem but its so hard to get it adjusted.
