I painted the blades on one of my spinnerbaits black using testors enamel. The blade was nickel and I put two coats on, but after a couple of hours a significant amount of it wore off. What can I do to make it last longer?

I painted the blades on one of my spinnerbaits black using testors enamel. The blade was nickel and I put two coats on, but after a couple of hours a significant amount of it wore off. What can I do to make it last longer?

My guess is the nickel has probably a clear finish, therefore the paint has nothing to stick to. If you take some steel wool or sandpaper and really rough up the surfaces then primer them with some metal primer, the paint you're using should stick.

Rough the blades up with sandpaper then paint with black primer or cheap black spray paint. You could clear the blades after painting buy dipping a couple times in clear laqure. Dick Nite makes a clear coat special for blades and spoons if you want to go

that route.

LOL...it happens, man...I painted a few spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, scuffing up the surface really helps. Good luck!
