Just Put A Huge Smile On My Son's Face

Recommended Posts

My son Dillon who is 6 and just finished up playing his second year of T-Ball so he's still learning the game. We just came back from a Brockton Rox game who are the Double A affiliate of the Red Sox. We found front row seats right behind third base. In the bottom of the fifth the Rox left fielder made a really nice sliding catch to end the inning. I said to Dillon "c'mon, let see if he'll throw the ball to us". We both got up and yelled: "the ball, the ball!". The left fielder looked at my son, smiled and threw the ball at me! I gave the ball to Dillon who was speechless after that. I know that it was only a Double A ball player that did that, but he sure put a smile on that kid's face!

The ball made it up of his shelf...:)

That rocks! I know your boy is only 6, but I bet he will never forget that moment... and if he does, dad will certainly never forget, and will remind him frequently. :D

When my son was 10 or 11, I took him to see the first Star Wars movie at a drive in theater (yes drive in). He still remembers it... almost 30 years later.

Really special moments.

Wow Fat-G, 2 in 1 game, what are the odds? That must have been quite a thrill to catch thows balls and meet the team afterwards. Great story!

It really was a special moment Dave T, it's all he talks about.

Thanks for the kind posts guys! :)

When my son was 2 1/2, I took him to a local AAA team game - my company at the time had box seats about 6 rows up even with 1st base. His mother had warned me about giving him peanuts because she had read they were a chocking hazard for small children, but you can't go to a ball game and not eat peanuts - so I told him to chew them up really good. In about the 5th inning, a foul ball came in our direction and I was able to snag it on the first bounce, sat down gave it to him and the crowd cheered. Then I looked up on the jumbo tron - he was sitting there holding the ball and I noticed his cheek looked like a squirrel getting ready to hibernate. He had been chewing the peanuts I gave him and storing them in his cheek - I told him it was okay to swallow them after he chewed them up. We got the team mascot to sign the ball.

The Rox are not AA affiliates of the Red Sox. They are independent/unaffiliated with MLB. Can-Am league to be exact. Still a great affordable place to see a ball game we go a lot.

Thanks for clarifying that.
