Season Opener In Northern Ont

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, went out on sunday for the season opener.. With some new tackle and tactics I managed to do ok. Landed 3 small mouth in the 2lb range and 3 largies around 3 lbs. Chigger craw and pointer 100s for the win. While I was testing out the structure scan I recently installed I found a school of fish in in 30 ft of water, they seemed to be feeding on a school of bait in the 10-15 ft range. I tried drop shotting them or slow rolling a deep diving crank but had no luck enticing them, any tips? What do you guys think?

Anything that can be counted down to the depth the fish are feed in, and retrieved. Heavier weight/smaller profile = faster retrieve, if necessary. Think scroungers, countdown minnow baits, weighted hook swimbaits, scroungers, even big grubs.

One of the most effective baits for fish that are schooled up deep and feeding on baitfish is a jigging spoon or a flutter spoon.
