Making Offset Hooks

Featured Replies

I made a thread a few days back saying i was having trouble on my hooksets...can i take my 4/0 extra wide gap hooks and bend them in to make offset? will this do the job? Or will i just have to buy all new hooks (cuz i have alot of wide gap)

Once you bend them they may lose strenght depending what kinda bends u do in um a simple upturned  point should be ok but once u start messing with the whole hook may have probs

Buy new ones and sale me all your EWGs(i have no issues with them)! If they are Gamakatsu of course!

they are Gamakatsu. I will probably try an offset out and see if i hook and stay hooked on more fish and i will let you know

I 'tweak' hooks all of the time to suit my needs. Go slow with the bends. Excessive heat will weaken them. Some makes are more brittle than others and will just snap.

Try a couple and tie one on. Hook it to fence and pull to the point of either line breakage or the drag engaging. If it doesn't break or straighten out, you should be ok to fish with it.
