Fishing In Troy, Ny Area?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for some good fishing spots in and around Troy, NY. I have comprised of possible places to try. But I don't know how any of these places are. What are your thoughts on these spots?

Albany, NY:

  1. Buckingham Lake Park
  2. Washington Lake Park
  3. Tivoli Lake Park
  4. Albany Pine Bush Preserve / Rensselaer Lake

Troy, NY:

  1. Wright Lake & Bradley Lake (Frear Park)
  2. Burden Pond
  3. Ida Lake
  4. Tomhannock Reservoir

Schenectady, NY:

  1. Iroquois Lake
  2. Riverside Park
  3. Front Street Park
  4. Gateway Landing Park

Scotia / Glenville, NY

  1. Collins Lake

Ballston, NY:

  1. Ballston Lake

Grafton, NY

  1. Second Pond
  2. Shaver Pond
  3. Long Pond
  4. Mill Pond
  5. Dunham Reservoir

Latham / Colonie, NY:

  1. Colonie Town Park

Waterford, NY:

  1. Mohawk River

I'm interested in fishing all species including bass at these spots. What are your experiences at these spots? Are they all public access? Do any of them require a special permit to fish, like the Tomhannock Reservoir has? Please tell me about these fishing sites.

These are fishing spots I can get to easily. If you have other suggestions, you can add them later. If you could provide links to specific town regulations for each of these sites, that would help. I've tried many of the standard DEC, and local govt sites. But they didn't

help me much. They mostly confused me.

Did you forget the Hudson River?

Did you forget the Hudson River?

Short answer, no. The long, I don't want to have anything to do with it. The last time I fished there it made me very sick, from smell alone.

Does anyone have some thoughts on the places I mentioned?

Do you have a boat or are you fishing from shore? if you have a boat you are missing some good fishing in the Hudson above you. from Fort Edward down to the Troy dam is excellent fishing, although I would avoid right in Fort Edward due to the dredging.

Sadly I'm stuck fishing on the shore. I don't have access to a boat. :(

I too am new to the area. I have limited time and resources but enjoy a little angling. I have been out to Lock 7 to shore fish, but have had zero luck. Grafton Lake is a good spot, but mostly pulling in perch or baby smallmouth.

The only legit fish I have caught since being here was at Saratoga Lake and it cost me $150 to rent a boat and get out there.
