  1. My frogging setup is 8:1. Like some other guys said, helps take up slack quick when a fish hits, and it gets back to the boat quick for another cast.
  2. Cashion 7'4" xtra Heavy. Tatula SV TW . 50 Lb Maxcuatro and various Hollow body frogs
  3. NY state record smallmouth was just caught in Cayuga this spring.
  4. Found out the other day that you can't slap Strike King hybrid hunter on water either. did it a couple of times to remove grass, looked at my bait because i thought I saw a piece of grass still on it and it was cracked almost in half between the hooks.
  5. I was shore fishing for stripers years ago and had baited and cast out and put my rod in a rod holder jammed in the rocks. There was an old gentleman fishing about 100' from me and I walked about halfway to him to talk to him. I was talking to him for about 5 minutes when he mumbled " I think you got a bite"! I looked to see my rod almost doubled over. As I was hopping across the rocks my rod holder broke and the rod and reel clattered down across the rocks and landed in the water. I saw the butt of the rod in about 6" of water and as I was reaching to grab it it took off like a freight train. I just waved as it disappeared into the depths.
  6. My local lake has a lot of money on it. my buddy and I get "bothered" by homeowners often this time of year when we're flipping docks. we try not to get confrontational but sometimes its difficult because they're arguments are so stupid. A marina owner came out and "spoke" to us the other day. As far as access sites, I just laugh. I've often said that when I retire I'm going to go to my local busy launch site and sit with a lawn chair and a cooler of beer and watch the show. That's cheap entertainment!!!
  7. I'm a sucker for new frogs. Anyone out there try this one yet and what do you think? Not really frog season up here in Upstate NY yet.
  8. I'd second the A-Rig or jerkbait. Or I'd stay home on those type of days!?
  9. will you entertain trades?? i'll trade the dustpan and brooms, vacuum cleaner, and laundry baskets for my snowblower!
  10. I had an SJR 783 IMX that was my go to spinning rod since I bought it in 2005. It went on almost every fishing trip I went on during those years. The last 4 inches broke off a couple months ago landing a fish. Since It had a limited lifetime warranty I sent it back to G Loomis. They determined that the breakage was not due to a defect, but to some kind of hit to the blank, which I was actually good with since it was 14 years old and had been banged around quite a bit. They offered to replace it with a brand new SJR 783 IMX Pro for $125, which normally sells for $335. Considering it was 14 years old I didn't think that was too bad. You won't be disappointed with the IMX.
  11. Check all the inside decking also. Get in and walk around, especially in the passenger area where water tends to lay. Feel for any soggy deck spots.
  12. my fishing partner has an Alpha 211, so Ive been fishing out of one for several years. I've fished tournaments as a co-angler for a few years so I've had a chance to ride in almost all the big name boats and I have to say I like his Legend better than any other I rode in. Its a solid platform and takes big water well. I never rode in a V20. Sorry to see them go.

Siebert Outdoors has a few different swim jigs including a bullet head that work well in grass.Great quality, good value. I see that Siebert has several different swim jigs. Which one do you guys find you like best? I'm in upstate NY so I'm not looking at many 5lb+ fish.
  14. Got one for Christmas. Haven't thrown it yet. We'll see................
  15. Princeton Tec Remix. Green and white LED. Lite, good battery life, one hand operation, variable brightness. http://www.princetontec.com/remix
  16. Try a drone!
  17. Man, I wish I had the kind of money you guys must have to be just throwin away $17 dollar baits!! Next time you're thinkin about tossing something, email me first!!!
  18. Ouch! I lost a Vision 110 once, got it back, and promptly lost it again about an hour later. Last Sunday while fishing a tournament I lost both my Ish's Phat Frogs to pike after I had caught several fish, including my biggest, then snagged and lost an entire Carolina rig. That was kind of annoying! I also thought I lost my Tru Tungsten Madd Max frog, but my buddy found it yesterday under the seat of his boat. However, my partner and I did finish 3rd so I made up for it a little.
  19. That fish has been certified as tying the NY State record. http://www.onthewater.com/new-york-state-record-smallmouth-caught-st-lawrence-river/
  20. I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago, I actually describe it as like someone threw a bowling ball into the water. I still have nightmares about that fish. One thing I have noticed with frog bites is, usually the bigger fish just inhale it while the smaller ones clobber it like they are trying to kill it.
  21. My fishing buddy and I fished a small(20 boats) team tournament on southern lake champlain last Sunday. We finished 3rd and almost all of out fish were caught on topwater (hollow body frog and Spook) and all 5 of our keepers were. I fished another tournament in July and finished 9th, and again, all my fish were caught on topwater, this time a Whopper Plopper and black Cavitron buzzbait. I didn't even start throwing the buzzbait until 11am. If the body of water and the conditions are right, topwater baits are great producers, and many times produce bigger fish. If you give up on topwaters you'll be missing out on a lot of fun and some great fishing.
  22. I have one of each size but haven't given them a real good test yet. I have thrown the smaller size a little and I found it casts like a bullet and it definitely walks better than a frog. As far as hookups go for the guys who say they have had blowups but no hookups, its like any frog, if you tweak the hooks away from the body a bit you'll vastly improve your hookup percentage. I too noticed the shiny weight(how could you not), has anyone tried painting it over?
  23. Nice day! Funny how you keep hearing detractors saying that the Ned rig isn't a big fish bait. I wonder what they consider a big fish?
