  1. Like one guy said, unless you OCD, why limit yourself to one brand and possibly miss something you might really like? right now I have rods from G Loomis,St Croix,Powell, Dobyns,Phenix,Wright and Mcgill,Falcon,Kistler, and ABU Garcia. Variety is the spice of life!!!
  2. There's nothing better than being in the right place when they turn on! Nice fish!
  3. From our own ranks
  4. Wait till the government forces us to use E15. Its coming. I even saw a a NASCAR team advertising it on their car this weekend. How screwed up is that?
  5. I usually bring 6-8 depending on the water body. Never had a boater complain to me. I haven't had a bad experience with a boater yet, all have been good guys.
  6. All I know is, the one time I have managed to outfish my buddy a couple years ago when we were throwing jerkbaits, he was alternating between an x-rap and an LC 100 and I was using a MB Vission 110. Up until that point I was skeptical of spending that much on a jerkbait.
  7. Probably about .5 inches bigger!
  8. I bought the second one without the hard bottom last year and it has worked out well for me. I like the box on top, you can put all the stuff you think you're going to use that day and don't have to dig as much. It also holds a lot more than it comes with. One thing I would recommend is undoing the bungee holding the top box on when you're not using it, knowing the tendency of those type of bungees to stretch.
  9. I wouldn't call it consistent but a buddy of mine was fishing our local lake for Lake Trout recently and caught several smallies in 80 FOW on downriggers.
  10. My buddy and I have really good luck with 4.5 curly tail in Bold Bluegill
  11. I'm fishing a tournament on the St. Lawrence as a Co-angler in a few weeks and I will definitely have one rod rigged up with it. I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and was convinced. It must work because just try and buy the jigheads from Tackle Warehouse. Almost all sizes and colors are backordered.
  12. Those have to be some of the prettiest smallmouth I've seen. Nice fish!!!
  13. Jackall Crosstail Shad
  14. Chug Bug Sammy Buzzbait
  15. I tried it for the first time this past weekend and I'm sold. Not saying its gonna be my only technique, but it definitely works. I am fishing a tournament in September as a non boater and it seems like a good back of the boat rig.
  16. Fish offshore humps, ledges, or deep drop off's. Like the others said, the North end is a lot quieter boat traffic wise. Early morning and evenings the boat traffic slows down significantly. This time of year you want to fish in 30-40 FOW or deeper or your going to be catching a ton of little fish. There are some big bass in Lake George, there are just a bunch of small ones too. I've talked to charter boat captains who have caught 5-6 lb smallies in 70 FOW. As far as where to stay, depends on availability, price you wanna pay, and where you wanna stay. Tons of motels and resorts in Lake George Village all the way to Bolton Landing. Not so many up north. There are island campgrounds run by NYS DEC. There are also two state campgrounds on the lake, Hearthstone Point in the south and Rogers Rock in the North. Rogers Rock has a nice boat launch.
  17. Although I don't know it well, If you have a few days to pre-fish, I have heard that the narrow riverine area to the Northeast up to the Conklingville Dam is good for smallmouth. http://www.bing.com/mapspreview Also you might want to join the NYBASS forum, http://www.nybass.com/ and reach out to some of the folks on there for some insight. I believe it has a lot of rocks and sand bars so be careful.
  18. I guess I was just wondering if, in certain situations, it would give you an advantage in having another offering down there. Obviously you wouldnt want to try it where it is highly likely to get hung, but it might entice a fish who might not ant the DS bait.
  19. I've posted this on a couple of forums. Has anybody out there ever tried using a jig as a drop shot weight? I rigged one up last season but never got around to trying it. I'd hear about it somewhere but was just wondering if anyone had tried it, and did it work. In a way it sorta makes sense, giving you another opportunity for a bite. Just wondering.
  20. Tiny Torpedo has caught a lot of smallies for me. I once bought a dozen of them on EBAY for $7.
  21. Whitish tube with tentacles dyed with red JJ's magic. Only fish we caught all day!!! 2 1/2 lb smallie.
  22. First trip out yesterday. Most of the lakes around here still have ice so my buddy and I hit the Hudson River. I picked up a nice 2 1/2 lb smallie in the first 15 minutes and we thought we'd have a good day. Never got anothe r fish all day! Water was 38-47 depending on where we were. lotta current. water was murkey but not muddy, except at trib mouths.
