  1. Thanks for all the input guys, and I really like the electrical tape idea!! Biggest issue is, he's a lefty, so he can't even use my stuff. A buddy of mine loaned me a lefty quantum accurist so I think i'll give it a go.
  2. can I get you guys experience with different rod covers. I'm looking to get some since I don't have a boat to store them in I'm constantly having to carry a bunch of rods velcro'ed (not sure if thats a word) together. which are good and which are good to avoid?
  3. Hey guys I need some opinions. Am i asking for trouble trying to teach my 11 year old son how to throw a baitcaster? Should I wait a couple of years? Any thoughts? I also posted this on another forum.
  4. Thanks guys, glad to be back, sort of!!!
  5. Ice went out the other day. Last year my buddy and another guy hammered the smallies early with suspending jerkbaits. 5-10 ft of water, and I mean hammered, like 75 to 100 a day.
  6. Just my 2 cents but i'd check with my local bait shop( if there is one) to see if there is anything in the river before I wasted my time. I'm just sayin!..............................
  7. So, did you catch anything on it?????
  8. I have 2 Loomis IMX's, SJR782 and 783, a bronzeback and a drop shot, all spinning. They are great rods, especially the IMX's. My 783 gets a lot of use. I can't comment on Dobyns since I don't own any. I have 2 powell casting rods that i like, and 1 St Croix that also gets a lot of use. I don't think you can go wrong with an IMX. i may try a Dobyns next time I need a rod, its sounds like they are a great rod.
  9. think geese are bad, try a pi@#$d off swan. Twice as mean as a goose and 2-3 times the size. I had one come all the way across a small lake after me once while I was wade fishing. They are VERY territorial. Chased me out of the water 3 times that night. I hate swans!!!
  10. I go on a trip every summer with 3 or 4 guys to a remote lake to fish, eat and drink for 3 days. 2 years ago, on the second night, after Happy Hour, everyone heads out to fish the evening bite. I'm sitting in my 12 ft aluminum boat which is pulled partly up on shore, with my back to shore, organizing my rods before I go out. All but one of the guys is already out on the lake. Sam, the one guy left, who had a good toot on, apparently decided he was going out with me, without telling me, instead of taking his canoe. Now Sam is about 6"4" and about 250, All of the sudden I hear a bang, and I'm underwater. I stand up in the 2ft deep water sputtering, as my boat settles back down and my tackle bag is floating upside down next to me. Sam is laying in the water like a big, drowned bear, and my boat is half full of water. From what I was able to gather from talking to him, since I had my back to him, was that he went to step down off the bank into my boat and stepped on the gunnel instead, flipping the boat, me and my stuff into the water. It took about 1/2 hour to find all my stuff, none the worse for wear, and we had a good laugh, hung our clothes to dry and had a few more beers. What was even funnier is when the other guys came back to camp, they pulled up in their boats and asked us what happened, laughed at us, and then one of the guys fell out of his canoe into the drink. Can't wait till this year!!!
  11. Most fun you can have with your clothes on!!!!
  12. A little early, but depends on water temp. Right now its still 90% ice!!!
  13. Saw a guy out on the south end of Champlain the other day. Not sure where he launched, but he was in a Ranger and throwing a spinnerbait. Most of the South end is open , along with the channel.
  14. Still Ice on Lake George!!! Did see a guy fishing Champlain the other day, casting to the edge of the ice in a back bay.
  15. Mike, How much do you charge to fix something after we screw it up trying to fix it ourselves? Just wondering!
  16. Didn't get the PM!! Not sure why.
  17. What is the average turnaround time on cleaning and tuning? I have a pflueger president that I think could benefit from it.
  18. I think that is way cool!!!
  19. Anyone try the Temple Fork outfitters gary Loomis rods yet? They are $100 and you can't go wrong with a Shimano Symetre.
  20. my opinion is, buy the best rod, price wise, that you can afford. are the higher priced rods worth it? absolutely!. lighter so less fatiguing, more sensitive, better casting accuracy(which I honestly thought was bull@#$% until I experienced it) better warranty, and the satisfaction of owning and using a fine piece of equipment. Like one of the other guys said, a Ferrari and a Geo will get you from point A to B, but which is more enjoyable and fun? Once I bought my first Loomis IMX I was sold. Up until that point I thought a good reel was more important.
  21. Has anyone tried this bait? There was a write-up in Bassmaster last year about it and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it.
  22. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to real Senko's try Cabelas Aqua Glo sticks. I've been using them the last couple of years and have had real good luck with them. Colors are limited, but at $2.99 Vs. $6.99 and up you can't go wrong.
  23. Cool! I found out about them about the time they discontinued them and could never get one. Hope they make them the same!!!!
