At the lake where I fish, they supply small boats that run on a 60lb thrust trolling motor (it is a small lake), You aren't able to change the motor or permanently attach anything to the boats, as well as the fact that you won't be receiving the same boat every time. I have been really anxious to find some deeper structure during the summer months using techniques other than getting a heavy jig and feeling around for a stump or a rock pile. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a sonar device ($50-200) that could easily be mounted or suction cupped to the boat and removed after each outing. I would also be possibly using this for my small john boat at my lake house on hartwell. any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Humminbird has the Fishing Buddy series which is all self-contained.

Most mfg have a suction cup transducer mount for a regular sonar unit. Just need a power source.

You can purchase a Eagle Cuda 300 or similar size unit for less than $100. Mount that to a board and use a suction cup mount for the transducer. Put battery clips on the power cord to use the trolling motor battery.

Another option for the transducer mount is just use the transom mount bracket with a hose clamp to attach the transducer to the trolling motor.

Humminbird Fishin Buddy 120 on our 12' Fish Hunter inflatable. Works great.

Not sure you can still buy them but the Hummingbird 535P is a good unit and works well. The suction cup is kind of crap but works good for a while.
