Question About The Importance Of Matching Diameter With Braid And Its Leader.

Featured Replies

I have some 55lb braid i use that is equivalent to 10lb (flouro) diameter. But what are the pros and cons of using something like 17lb flouro on 55 lb braid? Should i get 80lb braid for a leader that thick? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't worry about it. I use 8 and 10lb floro with 10lb braid (2lb diameter) and never an issue. Also use 12 and 14 with 20lb (6lb dia braid). As long as you tie a proper knot, you should have no issues

x2. Just select your knot based on if you're joining like-sized lines, or lines of different diameters

I would pick the leader based on the type of fishing you are doing. If I use a leader on flukes and senkos I use 10lb flouro attached to 20lb PP. My flipping stick has 55lb Samuari with a 20lb Tatsu leader(btw the tatsu was a free sample and, at least as a leader, is some of the best flouro I've tried). Also, if you use the albright knot to tie them together, the knot is designed to work based on 2 different line diameters.
