Except they are laughably expensive and very ugly... oh well.

Ardent...what a joke. I would rather spend my money on a Quantum, and we all know that will never happen.

They have always been priced too high.

HEY! watch it :) I happen to like the XS1000 B)

They have a good heart in staying American made, so I will support them.

I have several and really like them however, they are expensive. Glad they are making a left hand model...........Al

Ardent reel's are ugly. I don't like ugly reels, so I wont buy ugly reels. Sorry Ardent. make a pretty reel, and we'll talk.

i feel the way about diawa reels.

I always thought you were an ok guy. Now I have my doubts! :P:D Anyone that doesn't like the looks of a Fuego, Zillion and some of the JDM models is suspect. :)

I will say the looks of my 103HL Type R leaves a lot to be desired. Performance doesn't. Which would you rather have? Don't answer. Both. So would I, but I can put up with 'ugly' if everything else is top notch.

As far as the Ardents go, I have no idea of their performance capabilities. So far I've stuck with mainstream reels. Expensive isn't in my budget. :(

I'm not sure why folks knock these reels so much. I had an XS600 with the 5.1 gear ratio and loved it for cranking...casts a mile. I also thought it was a pretty nice looking reel. Never had a moments trouble out of it. I wouldn't hesitate to own another but I've switched over to Shimano exclusively for now. From what I've seen of the new Shimano I think it's the ugliest reel to come down the pipe in a long while. Black and White? What?!

They haven't made a better looking reel than the D series, ever.
