Big Worms @ Night

Featured Replies

hey guys, im trying my hand at night fishing again :/

ive struggled to say the least. my question is when throwing 8"-10" worms at night, how do you fish them? drag hop? both? go slow/fast?

also, i know everyone says black, but what are your thoughts about a black worm with a chart tail? or something like that?

and lastly, what size bullet weight do you use and do you peg it?

Thanks!!!

Try bothways.

Slower.

Black/chat will work.

The size of the weight depends on how deep your fishing and I personally don't peg. B)

This is one of my most successful techniques, so here's my two cents:

Weight depends on depth. at night I tend to go heavy, since its not as important to have that lifelike light-weighted flutter. start with 3/8 oz and adjust from there. I tend to drag slowly and pause with occassional hard pulls to send out vibrations. Any color that is predominantly dark will work, so your black/chart tail will be fine. I peg in heavy cover, not a necessity in light to moderate cover.

At some point, also try the Carolina rig at night. Great tactic, hardest part is getting used to casting it in the dark without backlashing.

I like a 7" or 10" black power worm, but any color thats good during the day on a specific lake will work just as good at night. Drag and small hops. Weight depends on depth and cover. I vary between 3/16, 1/4 or 3/8, unless pitching into the mat (which also works well at night).
