Dobyns Savvy?

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me about the Savvy line of rods ? I'm looking at the Dobyns Savvy Cast Rod 7'3" Med Hvy 733 to be exact .

I am wanting to get either that rod or a G. Loomis GL2 Cast Jig and Worm Rod 7'5" Med Hvy

Thanks

Ive never fished the GL2 before but I do own a Savvy 734 and it is a sweet rod for the price. The rod is super light, sensitive, and balances well. Buy one...I know youll fall in love.

It has to be an IMX minimum to be any good on this site. Only Loomis rod I own is a GL3 flyrod. I like it a lot. However, I've never used any other brand flyrod, so take that for what it's worth. Not much. I read the GL2 specs. Seems like it would be a good choice. I'm hoping someone with actual fishing experience with it will chime in with a few useful comments. I'd be interested in a comparison myself. I'm eventually going to need a Heavy power rod. Never too soon to start researching!

I dont think anyone has fished the new GL2 rods but.... The old ones were less than stellar performers at their price point. I fished one that a friend had, was not impressed. He won it on ebay or would have returned it. Anyway

I now own 12 Dobyns rods, 8 of those are Savvy series rods. I own the 733 and it is my go to for senkos, spinnerbaits and tx rigs under 3/8 oz weights. Any heavier than that and you might want to jump up to the 734. The 703 has a slightly faster action as well if thats of any importance to you. I haven't found a dud in the lineup, here is what I have. 692 spin, 693 spin, 703 cast, 704 cast, 733 cast, 734 cast, 735 cast and 766Flip.

Any questions on how any of them fish, give a shout

I bought 2-704C this spring and they fish very well. lightweight and strong for use with spin, buzz, frogs, swim jigs. fyi...also now have 702 and 703 spin rods. I find the 702 nice for topwaters, 703 great for tubes and c-rigs for smallies. I am still learning DS rigging and not really sure which way to lean yet. I need experience there. good luck to you.

I own 2 and lovem, can't wait for micro guides to hit stores!

I got to handle both of them Yesterday and I sure like how the grip on the Loomis is a small diameter. I just got a Kistler with Microguides I've only fished it 1 day so far so I am trying to decide if I want to buy another micro rod or one of the 2 I started the thread about.

I've looked at the Savvy series and they are a nice rod for the money compared with other brands. I own a Champion Series rod and plan to buy another soon.
