Ants In My Boat

Don't laugh.

The last 3 or 4 times out I noticed an ant or two in the boat. No big deal. Well, Friday I kill about a half a dozen. Today my son has a box with a couple donuts left in it. Once the sun came out so did the ants. I killed about a dozen. I get home and plug the charger in. While I'm cleaning the boat, I watch another dozen or so ants marching down the extension cord.

They don't appear to be carpenter ants but I'm not sure. They are black and measure about 1/4"-1/3" long. I have a tin boat and it does have wood in it. How much wood? I'm not sure.

The boat is also stored at a storage lot and is backed up to a fence with overhanging trees. So, I could have transported the ants from storage to my house or vice versa.

Obviously, I will have to treat the boat, the mulch outside of the house ,and do something about the storage. Any suggestions on what to use? Will ant traps work in the boat or would you suggest treating it with some other type of chemical? Is one brand better than another?

I got them in my camper once and got rid of them with the ant traps. Once they got into the house and I sprayed with Home Defense from Lowe's I think.

Had 100's in my Jon boat. I think they got in because it was a dry location during a long wet spell. Terro liquid ant bait. It will draw them out if you put it where you see one. Let them feed on it undisturbed and in a few days they will be gone.

Terro is great , I bought a boat that had sat out in the woods for a couple of years and had a number of ants in it. ( a squirrels nest too) The Terro got rid of them in a couple of weeks, you just put a couple drops on a piece of the box and put them in a number of spots in the boat. Good stuff

Ok, here's the sure cure. Stop buying donuts :P

Tournament day is the one day a month my son pays for breakfast. 6 donuts for 2 bucks at the gas station. Can't break tradition.

Ants will climb up ropes, tires, electric cords, etc. to get intoyour boat.

Use the chemical mentioned but also spray any paths into your boat with an ant spray to stop the ants before they get on the boat.

I have ants and tree frogs in my boat. I kill the ants and let the frogs alone. :)

Look at it this way, its better than Ants in your Pants........

Sorry, bad, I know, but I had to do it
