i am sure there are better rods than a $50 dollar rod, but like i said i would just like to save some money to keep the wife off my back for now. i use mostly senko's for my bass fishing so far, and the cheapy first combo i got is a medium rod, fast tip, and has 10 pound seaguar invizx on that setup. after reading the Guaranteed To Catch Bass

thread, i think that setup should do fine for now. actually, i have to get it warrentied because the tip is broke i think. there is a permenant bend about 6" down from the tip. webertime, where in VT are you? i see champlain vally so you cant be too far from me. i live in milton, work in essex, and spend most of my free time in hinesburg. i am waiting for my bike to sell before i buy a baitcaster, but i will let you know if i would like to check out the abu reel you have. if the bike doesnt sell, i wont be getting a baitcaster till at least xmas, more likely spring. btw, where did you catch that bass that was gorging on perch? i have only caught 2 bass worth mentioning since early summer (over 6"). the first was a smallmouth below the dam at ibm. there is a little spot that seems like it only gets water when the dam opens, and even then it may only be from the flooding this year. it was about 14-16" (i was too excited and didnt have a tape measure), the other was in lake champlain, somewhere in ferrisburgh on a boat, im not exactly sure where. was a largemouth, about 10-12". i hooked into a BIG largemouth in colchester pond, but he snapped the line after about 5 seconds (4 pound p-line cxx on a 5' ultralight). like a fool i reached down and turned up the drag when i should have turned it down and let him run!

If you like the feel of the Mojo and Premier, the Triumph might be an option that'll save you a few bucks. It's built on the same blank as the other two, but runs about $30 cheaper. It's built in the same plant in Mexico as the Mojo and some of SC's fly rods.

I have a 6'6" two-piece model that I keep in the back of the car/truck for those spur of the moment fishing trips. I have it paired with a Pflueger Trion GX-7 spooled with 30# braid, and it does the job with no complaints. Also, since I only have a total of about $110 in the outfit, I don't worry about breaking it or heat damage from sitting in a closed vehicle in the GA sun.

I am a Hinseburger myself! That's actually a Northern from some pond in the NE Kingdom. I've got a bunch of big Largemouth all around me, they are just well hidden;)

The IBM Dam is a GREAT spot for Smallies and BIG Fallsfish. There are even some Largemouths and good Brown Trout in there. One hole is full of Smallies and they loves them some Senkos (PM me for that spot).

Go ahead and buy the best equipment you can afford. If you buy cheap and upgrade later you will just end up wasting money. The $100-120 range for rods and reels has some great values that will last and be a noticeable upgrade.

Sounds like you're more interested in bass, get the revo. IMO it's much more comfortable after a day of fishing and well worth any sacrifice in line capacity etc. If you decide it's not up to the task for the bigger species then buy the c4

If you want to save money on the rod then I would look at the Berkley Lighting rod or shock. They are $40-$50 and are way better than an ugly stik.

There's a Gander Mountain over in Plattsburgh, NY. I have found that place to be real hit or miss on stock, but might be worth a trip (tell the lady you want to take her to Target, it works everytime!)
